From Fr. MD's Desk: Dear Friends, I hope this letter finds all of you safe and well. Although many of us received COVID vaccinations, we still have to remain cautious. I know three people who were fully vaccinated and had booster shots who became ill with COVID last month...
From Fr. MD's Desk: Dear Detroit Deaf Catholic Community, It is hard to believe that we are approaching the end of this school year! Congratulations to Richard Hackney who became a Catholic at our Easter Vigil celebration! We wish him all the best, and may God continue to bless him. I am grateful ...
From Fr. MD's Desk: Dear Friends, It is hard to believe that April is already here!! I hope you are having a blessed Lent. This morning while celebrating Mass for the novices at Camp De Sales, I preached that Lent was a wonderful opportunity for us to learn how to fall in love again with God. Similarly, many married couples told me that the Encounter Retreat - a popular program for Catholic married couples, had saved their marriages because it helped them to recognize and appreciate one ...
From Fr. MD's Desk: Dear Detroit Catholic Deaf Community, As always, I look forward to Lent which begins on Ash Wednesday, March 2. I enjoy Lent because it helps me prepare for the joyous celebration of Easter. I don’t think the Easter Season would become joyous if we did not go through Lent. As explained in the newsletter last month, I will offer two Masses on Ash Wednesday with one at OLL at 9:30 AM and second once at Holy Innocents at 12 PM. Please remember that Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting...
From Fr. MD's Desk: Dear Members of Detroit Catholic Deaf Community, I am aware that this time is probably difficulty for all of us as omicron spreads rapidly like a wildfire. What gives me strength in this difficult time is to read St. Francis de Sales’ writing on trusting in God: “Be at peace. Do not look forward in fear to the changes of life...
From Fr. MD's Desk...Dear Friends, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I hope the New Year will bring God’s many blessings to all of us! Let us continue to pray that the situation with this ongoing pandemic will get better this year! Veronica and I will fly to Savannah, Georgia on January 4 for National Catholic Office for the Deaf Pastoral Week. NCOD is an organization that offer support to pastoral workers across the country ...
From Fr. MD's Desk: Dear Detroit Catholic Deaf Community, Happy Advent to all of you! I am sure many of you are looking forward to Christmas. Remember that Christmas is not here yet. That is why the Church has Advent - a period of preparation for our great celebration of Jesus’ birth on December 25.
From Fr. MD's Desk: Dear Friends, Happy November to all of you! November is one of my favorite months. I am not sure why, but I always like this month. Maybe it is because the weather is not too cold or hot. I always enjoy walking during this time of year. Looking at nearly bare trees makes me reflect that they will be back to “life” with green leaves in May
From Fr. Mike's Desk: Dear Detroit Catholic Deaf Community, I look forward to this month because, as like most of you, if not all, I enjoy the beautiful fall foliage. I am fortunate to have an easy access to Camp De Sales where there are over 200 acres of woodland. I enjoy walking on a few trails through the woods at the camp during this time of year.
From Fr. Mike's Desk: Dear Deaf Catholic Community, It is hard to believe that our summer is ending this month. Fall comes next and then Winter. We then repeat the cycle next year with Spring and finally Summer. Likewise, the Church follows a cycle of liturgical seasons. The Church is now in the season called Ordinary Time. This will be followed by the new season of Advent which begins the last Sunday of November. We...
From Fr. Mike's Desk: Dear Detroit Catholic Deaf Community, I hope all of you are enjoying the summer. Last week, we had Jesus Deaf CREW (Catholic Religious Enrichment Week) at Carl’s Family Village (at Camp De Sales) in Brooklyn, Michigan. We had people coming over from all over the United States: California, South Dakota, Texas, South Carolina, Kentucky, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Iowa, and of course, Michigan! If things remain under control with COVID, we plan to host this program again next summer.
From Fr. MD’s Desk : Dear Friends, I hope you are enjoying this summer. Thanks to the vaccine, it seems that my daily routine has returned to almost normal like pre-COVID days. I am grateful for Fr. Ken to be able to cover my Masses when I serve other Deaf Catholic communities that do not have a signing priest.
From Fr. MD’s Desk : Dear Members of Detroit Catholic Deaf Community, I hope this letter finds all of you safe and well. Although many of us received COVID vaccinations, we still have to remain cautious. I know of someone who became ill a few weeks after being vaccinated...
From Fr. MD’s Desk: Hello to All of You! The month of May has arrived! The Church traditionally honors two great saints in the month of May. Who are they? Mary and Joseph. Many Catholics probably already know that May is the month of Mary...
From Fr. Mike's Desk: Dear Friends in Christ, By the time you are reading this newsletter, Easter will be a few days away. I pray that all of us will have a joyous Easter! In fact, the Church has seven weeks to celebrate Easter season...
From Fr. Mike's Desk: Dear Friends, I hope you are doing well. It is hard to believe that we have begun Lent and before we all realize it, Easter will be here! Not only that, it was exactly one year ago that our lives changed entirely due to the pandemic...
From Fr. Mike's Desk: Dear Friends, Happy February to all of you! You probably already know that Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 17. Below is Ash Wednesday Mass Schedule:
From Fr. Mike's Desk: Dear Friends, Happy New Year to all of you! When we celebrated the arrival of 2020 last year, most, if not all of us never foresaw that it would be one of the worst years in our lives. The pandemic had paralyzed most aspects of our life...
From Fr. Mike's Desk: Dear Friends, I can imagine this time of the year is very challenging for all of us due to the pandemic. I have to keep reminding myself that God’s plan is always perfect. I do not believe that He had put COVID-19 on the earth...
From Fr. Mike's Desk: Dear Catholic Deaf Community, I hope this letter will find all of you safe and well. The Catholic Church celebrates All Saints’ Day on November 1. It is one of my favorite holy days. “Why?” you might wonder. First, we need to look at the word “saint”. It means a person....
